This is the definitive guide to Esporta Fitness. Have you been thinking about joining this gym? We'll look to answer all your questions, give expert insight and review to their offerings, plus help you find the nearest location to you. Let's get going!
Esporta is a mid-tier, full amenity gym chain that has 142 locations across the nation. It is a spin-off, rebrand subsidiary of LA Fitness (which is still the parent company). Thus, the clubs itself are similar, and amenities are very alike. Here's what you can expect:
Most in the industry believe that having these 4 amenities put a gym into the mid-tier category. That means a general bump up in price, too.
Finally, you can expect all your standard gym equipment at Esporta too:
Esporta Fitness was originally established as LA Fitness in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. As of 2021, the CEO of LA Fitness (and thus Esporta Fitness) is Louis Welch. The headquarters are still in Irvine, California. Esporta Fitness is a rebrand of some LA Fitness locations, as of 2020.

A well-known fitness franchise that offers exceptional aquatic facilities. It's also a fantastic choice for busy parents, thanks to their childcare services, as well as for anyone interested in shooting hoops on a hardwood court. If a pool, sauna, or hot tub is essential to your workout routine, then Esporta deserves your attention.
Their dedication to water-based facilities is unparalleled. In fact, this is one of the leading gym franchises nationwide, featuring saunas, swimming pools, and hot tubs in most of their locations.
Many gyms offer childcare services—77% to be exact, with 110 out of 142 providing this convenience. For busy parents, we highly recommend finding a gym with childcare; it’s a game-changer!
Basketball players, particularly those on hardwood courts, often find their playing options restricted. Enter Esporta: with more than 100 gyms available, they provide ample opportunities for us to hone our shooting skills.
We think that the majority of Esporta members are generally satisfied with what they have to offer. However, we would definitely consider making some updates and adjustments.
In addition to having over three locations that operate 24 hours a day, one of their primary rivals, 24 Hour Fitness, boasts an impressive 110 facilities that are open all night long.
It would be beneficial to enhance certain facilities, as many of them are over five years old. A rejuvenation would certainly be appreciated!
They introduced a range of modern and stylish services and amenities, including a cardio cinema, massage chairs, tanning options, and even pickleball!
We recognize that gym pricing can differ depending on the area, just like other fitness chains. In our comparison, we found these rates on five separate occasions:
This was consistent at Esporta locations in:
Choosing between the $9.99 and $29.99 monthly plans really boils down to how much you’re willing to pay upfront. The break-even point is at 7 months, where you would spend $270 on either option. For anyone planning to stick around longer than 7 months, the $9.99 plan is the better choice. After one year, the cost for the $9.99 plan totals $379, whereas the $29.99 plan amounts to $419 (including the annual fee). And yes, both memberships come with a $59 annual fee, which we found to be consistent across the board. It’s refreshing to see a straightforward pricing structure—there are no tiered memberships for different amenities or complicated access options based on region.

Esporta gyms provide a budget-friendly, classic big-box gym experience. While their amenities are appealing, they are presented in a somewhat conventional and uninspiring manner. Members can enjoy features not commonly found at smaller chains, such as pools, saunas, and basketball courts. However, the appearance of the gyms can come across as a bit dull. This aligns with the aesthetics of their parent company, LA Fitness, which has a dated look and feel. While this may slightly affect their amenities—like the absence of turf areas and Olympic lifting platforms that attract a younger crowd—it signals a need for Esporta to modernize. (As of December 2023, we've spotted images showcasing turf and platforms on social media, but the amenities listed on their website haven't been updated to reflect this). Additionally, Esporta lacks tanning and massage services, which are offered at competitors like Crunch, as well as steam rooms and 24-hour access, available in only a few locations.
That said, Esporta shines with its aquatic offerings. With an impressive 136 pools, no other gym chain can rival them in this category. They also boast 114 basketball courts, providing access to leagues and tournaments—making this chain a top choice for basketball enthusiasts!
In terms of pricing, if you're prepared to pay a higher initiation fee of $199, you'll enjoy an incredibly low monthly rate of $9.99, which is a better value compared to fast-fitness chains like Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness. Our recommendation? Commit to your fitness journey with Esporta over the competition.
While many will find Esporta worth the investment, it's the swimmers and basketball players who will gain the most benefits. Nonetheless, everyone else will still enjoy a solid fitness experience.
