Which gyms have basketball?

Finding a gym with basketball courts isn’t easy—and here’s why: gyms often prioritize space for strength & cardio areas, or group fitness and cycling classes over courts. Regulation courts, at a massive 94 x 50 feet, are challenging to fit within the gym footprint, and even smaller half-courts or high school-sized spaces can be hard to accommodate.

While it’s a tough search, it’s not impossible. We gathered up all the gym chains where you can get your hoop on: 24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, Crunch Fitness, Equinox, Gold's gym and many more below.

  • Boutique fitness centersEquinox, Life Time and other country-club style locations ($80+ monthly, are more expensive but boast the most extensive amenities. These full-sized facilities frequently include basketball courts as a key feature. Courts are plentiful and usually a staple of their offerings.
  • Mid-priced gyms—24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, Gold's Gym ($30 to $50+ monthly) often have larger footprints (30,000 square feet and above), making it easier to include basketball courts. These gym chains vary in size from gym to gym, so not every location will carry the amenity. You may find courts that are smaller than regulation, and/or may have just a half-court setup.
  • HVLP (high value, low price)—VASA, Chuze, Crunch, EoS ($20 to $50 monthly) focus on maximizing member amenities for a low price, so some of their gyms will have a court.
  • Low Cost gyms—Anytime Fitness, Planet Fitness, Snap Fitness ($20 and below monthly) do not have courts. They are typically smaller than the gyms listed above so space is a premium. Their lower price reflects that, focusing more on cardio and weight equipment.

Here's why playing basketball at gyms makes sense:

There’s nothing quite like the clean hardwood, regulation lines, a single rim, and a wide backboard. Basketball enthusiasts can be picky—and for good reason. (Or maybe you're like me, avoiding the cement courts because your knees can’t take it anymore.)

Whatever your reason, there’s a special kind of joy in hooping indoors. Here are a few reasons why playing at a gym is worth it:

  • Ultra convenient: Having a basketball court just a few steps away from the gym floor is like unlocking a hidden level of convenience. Whether you’re waiting for your turn to play or just sneaking in a quick game, you can call out “next,” crush a quick workout, and be back on the court before you know it. No wasted time, just pure efficiency.
  • Warm up muscles easier: A quick session in the sauna or steam room is the perfect way to loosen up before stepping onto the court. Some might even prefer the reverse: work up a sweat playing, then relax in the steam room after.
  • Take advantage of other amenities: Let’s be honest—after a few hours on the court, your body feels it. A dive into the pool—or even just a cold shower—makes for a fantastic post-game recovery. It’s hard to beat this combo of amenities anywhere else but a gym!
  • Social fun: Basketball is naturally a team sport, and there’s no better way to connect with your "hoop homies." From shooting drills to full games, the camaraderie and team spirit elevate the experience.
  • Shoot hoops anytime: Finding a gym with 24/7 access is like hitting the jackpot for basketball lovers. Whether you’re perfecting your jump shot late at night or starting your day with an early morning game, the freedom to play on your own schedule is unmatched. Some of my best sessions have been at 6 a.m., alone on the court with my AirPods in—just me, the ball, and total peace.

What can you expect at these courts?

When you step onto a basketball court at a gym, you can typically expect a well-maintained space designed for quality play. Most courts feature smooth hardwood flooring, regulation hoops with sturdy backboards, and clearly marked lines for games like full-court, half-court, or even casual pick-up. At many regulation style courts, you'll see the "high-school" setup with 6 hoops, enough for a full-court 5-on-5 or just multiple spots for different basketball options (21, drills, 2-on-2, etc).
